About the authors
Joan Coleman, an avid artist since childhood and a prolific professional artist for over 10 years, is a talented and versatile children's book illustrator having had the opportunity to work with several accomplished authors and publishers. Joan utilizes a wide variety of art techniques and mediums including acrylic paints, oil pastels, graphite, colored pencils, watercolors, inks, and digital design techniques to create her artwork and designs. She is known for her versatility and tenacious design strategy while simultaneously bridging the artistic gap between tradition and technology.

Emilie Khair is the author of the biography, Passion's Piano: The Eddie Heywood Story, and writer, director and producer of Absent Mind, a short film. An avid writer, she loves to experiment with different genres. Kudzu for Christmas is her first children's book.
Emilie has undergraduate degrees in Theatre Arts and English Education from the University of Minnesota, a Master's degree in Special Education from the University of West Georgia, and her doctorate in Sociology from Georgia State University. She has two sons and lives in McDonough with her husband of 29 years. While Emilie's roots are in Minnesota, her southern experiences are an inspiration to her writing.
