We are a research center with a primary mission to advance scientific knowledge about the language and social communication impairments in autism/ASD and related disorders. We carry out studies on all ages using behavioral, brain, and cognitive measures.
Our goal is to understand the range of abilities, the developmental patterns, and the brain systems that may explain why people with autism have difficulties communicating with spoken language. One of our current studies includes evidence-based interventions for children.
We have an outstanding team at CARE who strive to carry out our research mission with rigor and compassion.
Studies carried out at our Center, and with collaborators at neighboring Universities, are funded by the National Institutes of Health, other federal agencies, and the Simons Foundation for Autism Research.

Post-doctoral fellow, Yanru Chen, presented featured research at INSAR 2023 in Stockholm, Sweden. She presented on the discrepancies between expressive and receptive language in minimally verbal children and adolescents with autism. You can read more from her interview here.
