PRP for Hair Restoration

Non-Surgical Injectables PRP Hair Restoration

Hair loss is a prevalent and distressing condition that affects countless individuals worldwide, causing a significant impact on their self-esteem and confidence. Whether it stems from genetics, hormonal changes, or other underlying factors, hair loss can be emotionally challenging. That’s why the Langdon Center offers multiple hair restoration treatments, including PRP therapy.

What is PRP for Hair Restoration?

PRP hair restoration uses a patient’s own enriched blood platelets to stimulate hair growth. These platelets are rich in growth factors, which play a crucial role in tissue repair and regeneration.

When injected into the scalp, the growth factors in the PRP stimulate the dormant hair follicles, encouraging them to enter the active growth phase. Additionally, PRP enhances blood circulation to the scalp, nourishing the hair follicles and creating a healthier environment for growth. Over time, the revitalized hair follicles produce thicker, fuller, and more robust hair, leading to a noticeable improvement in the patient’s overall hair density and appearance.

Because PRP utilizes the patient’s own blood components, the procedure is safe, minimally invasive, and carries minimal risk of adverse reactions or complications. This makes it an ideal non-surgical alternative to a hair transplant.

Frequently Asked Questions

PRP treatments at the Langdon Center are quick and simple. The process begins with a simple blood draw from the patient, similar to a routine blood test. We then place the collected blood into a centrifuge machine to separate its components, concentrating the platelet-rich plasma. Finally, Dr. Langdon carefully injects this PRP directly into the scalp in the areas of thinning and hair loss.

The entire process of drawing blood, isolating the PRP, and the injections takes approximately 90 minutes. A PRP procedure involves minimal discomfort from a slight pinch during the blood draw and injections, but we can provide a numbing cream if needed. Treatments are typically performed once a month for the first three to four months and then every three to six months, depending on the individual patient.

Because hair restoration with PRP uses a patient’s own blood, there are no side effects or risk of adverse reactions. You may have slight swelling and bruising at the injection sites for a day or two. PRP therapy requires no downtime, and you can resume your daily routine immediately after each treatment.

The benefits of PRP hair restoration are decreased hair shedding, hair regrowth, and increased hair length. PRP stimulates the growth factors and stem cells associated with hair regrowth and retention. Most patients need a series of treatments for optimal results, depending on the severity and cause of their hair loss.

You’ll likely see improvements from PRP therapy within six months and optimal results in approximately a year. These benefits can be long-lasting with occasional maintenance treatments and proper care.

Hair restoration with PRP is an effective procedure for men and women with thinning of their hair, pattern alopecia, and various forms of hair loss who have not found success with over-the-counter products. Those recently experiencing hair loss may be better candidates than those with long-standing problems.

As a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Langdon can evaluate your hair condition and help you determine the best treatment option. He may recommend an FUE hair transplant for significant balding or those seeking more dramatic results.
