AUTO INSURANCE: Are You Covered?

Full Tort vs. Limited Tort

Car accidents resulting in devastating consequences including life-altering injuries, overwhelming medical bills, lost income and property damage happen every day. In Pennsylvania, auto insurance companies offer the option of Full Tort or Limited Tort coverage.

FULL TORT coverage gives individuals the ability to sue in court for all injuries resulting from an auto accident.

LIMITED TORT coverage is less expensive, but “limits” one’s ability to sue for pain and suffering even if not at fault.

There are some exceptions that apply which will allow you to recover, despite your selection of the Limited Tort option.

  1. Your accident was caused by a driver who was charged with DUI.
  2. Your accident was caused by an out-of-state driver.
  3. You suffer “serious bodily injury.”

Courts have defined serious bodily injury as death or dismemberment. Under Limited Tort you must have serious bodily injury in order to recover money for pain and suffering. You may not, however, be able to recover money for a broken leg, neck and back pain, herniated disks and other severe injuries.

By choosing the Full Tort option you will be able to recover money for any injuries that you suffer.

Review your policy and see what option you’ve selected. Bucks County auto accident attorney, Keith J. Williams strongly urges that you select the Full Tort option in order to preserve all your legal rights should you be involved in an automobile accident.

Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Auto accidents involving uninsured, underinsured or an at-fault driver that fled the scene of an auto accident are very common, especially at times when people are struggling economically. In Pennsylvania, auto insurance companies offer Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage.

If you’re in an auto accident caused by someone without insurance, with too little insurance, or by a hit-and-run driver, this optional coverage under your auto insurance policy can cover your expenses.

Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage is relatively inexpensive to add to a policy considering the amount of protection it offers. The coverage is purchased with limits and covers medical bills, lost wages, pain, and suffering.

By adding Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage you will be able to recover money for any injuries that you suffer.

Review your policy to see if you’re covered. Bucks County auto accident attorney, Keith J. Williams strongly urges that you purchase Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage in order to protect yourself financially and physically should you be involved in an auto accident involving an uninsured or underinsured motorist.
