Liposuction and Liposculpture

Undergoing cosmetic surgery is literally a life-changing decision, so we will consult with you to make sure you are comfortable with the procedure you choose. If you are considering liposuction or liposculpture in Bucks County, Philadelphia, Princeton, or the South Jersey area, we can answer all of your questions. Below, we have listed common questions that patients ask us about liposuction procedures:

Q. Am I a candidate for liposuction?

A: Liposuction is usually performed on men and women between the ages of 18 and 60. During the initial, complimentary consultation, we will perform a physical and create a basic patient history. With this information, we can quickly and easily determine the health of the patient. Patients with underlying medical issues may need to be evaluated by their primary doctor before they undergo this type of procedure.

Q. How long will I be unable to work?

A: Liposuction patients typically require no more than one workweek when recovering from liposuction. During this procedure, patients are given anesthesia as instructed by our in-house anesthesiologists. This causes patients to feel somewhat lethargic for a few days following the surgery. Patients wear spandex garments under their clothing for the first three weeks after liposuction procedures that are consistent with the anatomical region in which the surgery occurred.

Q. When can I go back to the gym?

A: Many patients will exercise as early as two weeks after the procedure, though this does result in swelling, and we recommend that patients wear spandex garments. At one month, patients can begin to exercise without significant swelling. Make sure you discuss your exercise plans with our specialists, so they can help you “work out” a risk-free regimen.

Q. How bad is the post-surgery pain?

A: Most patients describe more soreness than pain. The use of spandex garments and ice is the primary therapy in the first few days and weeks after surgery. This will limit the soreness that is associated with the swelling of liposuction. If needed, a doctor will prescribe pain medicine during the initial visit.

Q. What kind of scars can I expect?

A: Only a quarter-inch incision is needed to perform these procedures. Areas that are hidden by clothing or have a naturally existing skin crease are used in all cases, and most patients refer to the sites as no bigger than a birthmark. Visit our body results page to see some of our patients’ postoperative results.

Q. Is Laser Liposuction offered?

A: Absolutely. Each patient and anatomic region is different. As a result, we offer Laser Assisted Liposuction to all patients who would best benefit from its use. Not every patient requires the laser to provide their desired result, however. The surgeon will discuss the best procedure at the initial consultation.
