Located in the Lawndale section of Northeast Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Protestant Home (PPH) is designed for those age 62 or better who appreciate city living but like the idea of escaping into a secure, nature-filled oasis with well-maintained floral gardens, a koi pond and Zen-like green spaces.
PPH has provided award-winning, amenity-rich living options and care for Pennsylvanians since 1890. Simply put, we have more than 130 years of experience providing quality residences and creating wonderful days for city people just like you.
After walking through the PPH gates, you’ll quickly discover this is not a typical “retirement community.” The village-like campus has everything from banking, restaurants, store, primary care doctor’s office, pharmacy, health care and wellness amenities, complete with an indoor swimming pool and fitness center. Even a bowling alley!

Every retirement community has a distinct personality that reflects the people who live there. At PPH, you’ll find vital, engaged and creative residents, many who will seem younger than their peers. The majority are lifelong city people who love the arts, culture and dining the city offers.
Moreover, PPH attracts a number of artistically inclined individuals who relish the art studios that are reserved for creative works and crafting projects. There are also resident-hosted writing and poetry clubs, gardening clubs, religious studies and support groups and planned happy hours and celebrations. While not everyone fits neatly into this generalization, the enthusiasts who do influence the spirit of our community with a sense of humor and passion for life.
Finally, we are proud to be home to a diverse community in terms of race, LGBTQ+ identities and spiritual faiths. Residents of all walks of life feel welcome and included in this accepting community.

Our director of security has been with us for over 20 years and is a former Philadelphia police officer. With his help, PPH has invested in a robust security system with a gate at the entrance and a 24/7 on-site security team. Plus, we have a backup generator to weather any city-wide power outages.
The PPH security team is a part of our family. They serve the residents in many other ways that go beyond just protection. Whether helping to locate misplaced keys, purses or phones, answering questions or just checking in on the general well-being of residents, our security team is truly a well-trained, friendly group of dedicated professionals. Plus, every resident has an emergency call system for emergency health response or security matters.
